Miami Zombies, Florida Vampires, and Snuff Films

Recluse was hard at work this past week taking in several concerts, most notably the 2012 Scion Rock Fest, for an upcoming piece on heavy metal to delve to deeply into the bizarre instance cannibalism reported in Miami on the 26 of May. While I was in the field the superb and prolific Loren Coleman has already published three excellent pieces, which can be read here, here, and here, on the international rash of cannibalism that has exploded since the Miami incident, popularly referred to as the Miami Zombie attack, came to national attention. Now that I've had the time to sit down and I digest (har har) the whole bloody affair I suppose I'll throw in my two cents.

We'll start things off by briefly examining the religious and mythological significance of cannibalism throughout the ages. Of cannibalism, the legendary anthropologist James George Frazer states:
"Strange as it may seem to us, one motive which induces a savage warrior to eat the flesh or drink the blood of the foe whom he has slain appears to be a wish to form an indissoluble covenant of friendship and brotherhood with his victim. For it is a widespread belief among savages that by transfusing a little of their blood into each other's bodies two men become kinsmen and allies; the same blood now circulating in the veins of both, neither can injure the other without at the same time injuring himself; the two have therefore given each other the strongest bond, the best possible hostages, for their good behaviour. Acting on this theory, the primitive warrior seeks to convert his slain for into the firmest of friends by imbibing the dead man's blood or swallowing his flesh."
(The Golden Bough, pg. 518)

Legendary mythologist Joseph Campbell goes further than Frazer and breaks the act of cannibalism down to its Archetypal core:
"We all know the fairy tale of the witch who lives in a candy house that would be nice to eat. Indeed, we have seen already what a scare she gave to a child who conjured her up in play. She is kind to children and invites them into her tasty house only because she wants to eat them. She is a cannibal. (And for some six hundred thousand years of human experience cannibals, it should be born in mind --and even cannibal mothers --were grim and gruesome, ever-present realities.) Cannibal ogresses appear in the folklore of peoples, high and low, throughout the world; and on the mythological level the archetype is even more magnified into a universal symbol in such cannibal-mother goddesses as the Hindu Kali, the 'Black One,' who is personified of 'all-consuming Time'; or in the medieval European figure of the consumer of the wicked dead, the female mouth and belly of Hel."
(The Masks of God Volume I, pg. 68)
this cannibalistic fairy tale is popularly known in the West as the tale of Hansel and Gretel

With this in mind we shall now examine several incidents of cannibalism being reportedly internationally this past week. Coleman, who is a big proponent of the copycat effect, theorized that the partial trigger for late May's rash of cannibalism was the re-emergence of Vince Li, a Canadian citizen who, on June 30, 2008, stabbed, beheaded, and cannibalized a human named Tim McLean on the back of a Greyhound bus. On May 22, 2012, CBC News ran this story, centering around Li's mental instability, that brought this grizzly incident back to public light.

There was, however, another recent incident of cannibalism that occurred a good month before Li once again made Canadian headlines. This incident came from Brazil and featured heavy cult overtones. To the best of my knowledge is was first reported on April 13, 2012. Raw Story reports:
"Brazilian police announced Friday that they had arrested a man and two women on suspicion of having murdered and cannibalized at least two women in what was described as a purification ritual.
"The three defendants formed a sect called 'Cartel' that seeks to purify the world and reduce the population, police spokesman Democrito Honorato from the northeastern Brazilian town of Guaranhuns told AFP.
"The three defendants, Jorge and Elizabeth Pires da Silveira, both 51, and Bruna da Silva, 25, intended to kill three women per year, police said...
"Two bodies were found in the garden of the house occupied by the three defendants, which police believe were those of two women who disappeared recently: Alexandra Falcao, 20, and Gisele da Silva, 30. Both had been seen in the vicinity...
"A five-year-old girl found with the trio is believed to be the daughter of the victim, police said. She was placed under the protection of a juvenile judge to find her a new family."
two of the Brazilian cannibal suspects

May 27 witnessed the first reports of a Chinese cannibal who has apparently been active for some time. The Washington Post notes:
"Authorities have arrested a man in southwestern China accused of killing 11 people and dismembering, burning and burying their bodies to destroy the evidence.
"The Ministry of Public Security said in a statement Sunday that 56-year-old Zhang Yongming was arrested by police in Yunnan province on murder charges.
"It said Zhang is suspected of attacking male victims who were walking alone on a quiet road near his home in Jinning county.
"The case is believed to be related to media reports this past week that at least eight young people had gone missing in the county.
"The reports sparked a public outcry because they cited relatives of the missing as saying that police ignored their pleas for help and prevented them from contacting the media."
Homo sapien, it's what's for dinner

On May 29, 2012, the hands and head of a Maryland man were discovered. This was just the beginning. The Global Post has the run down:
"A Baltimore college student, Alexander Kinyua, has confessed to killing his housemate and eating parts of his brain and heart.
"Kinyua, 21, has been charged with first-degree murder for the death of 37-year-old Kujoe Bonsafo Agyei-Kodie, the Associated Press reported. He is being held without bail.
"Both men had been enrolled at Morgan State University and lived together with Kinyua's family in the suburb of Joppatowne, CBS Baltimore said.
"According to charging documents posted by the Baltimore Sun, Agyei-Kodie had been missing for four days when, on Tuesday, Alexander Kinyua's brother Jarrod discovered two tins hidden under a blanket in the basement. They contained a human head and hands.
"Alexander Kinyua told his brother that the remains were animal. After going to fetch their father, Jarrod returned to find the body parts gone and Alexander cleaning out the tins.
"The family called police, who found the head and hands stashed in the house. Kinyua told them where to find the rest of the body: in a dumpster outside a nearby church.
"He has admitted to killing Agyei-Kodie 'by cutting him up with a knife,' the charge sheet says, and further told detectives that he had eaten his victim's heart and portions of his brain.
"Kinyua's confession was 'matter-of-fact,' a police spokeswoman told the Sun, and did not shed any light on his motive."
One of the most curious instances of recent cannibalism comes from Canada, once again. It involves the bisexual porn actor Luka Magnotta, who was just recently arrested on June 4, 2012, in Germany. He stands accused of murdering, dismembering, and eating parts of a Chinese man. MSNBC reports:
"Luka Rocco Magnotta is suspected of murdering the man in Montreal, making a video of the attack and sending the victim's dismembered body parts in the mail - including posting a foot to the headquarters of the country's Conservative Party.
"Magnotta is wanted by authorities in Canada for first-degree murder and other charges. Interpol has put Magnotta on the equivalent of its most-wanted list, The Associated Press reported Sunday.
"Police believe Magnotta, 29, fled to France on May 26. Police identified the victim as Chinese university student Jun Lin, 33."
Luka Magnolla

There are a lot of curious aspects of this case, most notably Magnotta's relationship with Karla Homolka. For those of you unaware, Homolka, along with husband Paul Bernardo, was convicted of raping and murdering three girls, including Homolka's own sister, Tammy, in the early 1990s. All of these incidents were videotaped, not unlike Magnotta's killing (and yet snuff films are still widely described as an 'urban legend'). Years before Magnotta gained his current notoriety, there were internet rumors that he had been dating Karla Homolka upon her (inexplicable) release from prison. Canadian authorities have been quick to decry these speculations, naturally. The Inquisitr notes:
"Karla Homolka's link to accused murderer Luka Rocco Magnotta is false, according to Canadian Police, who state there is no evidence that the two ever dated.
"Canadian Police stated, according to Macleans that:
"'Montreal police backtracked Thursday on claims they made that Magnotta had dated Karla Homolka, one of Canada's most notorious sex killers. Police officials clarified that they were aware of them any rumors posted on the Internet, but had no proof to substantiate those stories. In 2007, Magnotta came forward to news media to deny that he had dated her, although many at the time suggested he was the one who started the rumors to gain attention...'
"The link between Homolka and Magnotta was first brought to light in 2007, when internet rumors began saying that Magnotta, a struggling porn actor, was dating Homolka, an accused serial killer, who struck a plea deal with prosecutors that allowed her serve 12 years, instead of her original sentence of life in prison...
"...Magnotta approached news media in September 2007, following claims from numerous internet gossip sites that they were romantically linked. He stated, according to The Montreal Gazette, that:
" 'My whole career (as a model and adult film star) are going downhill... Nobody wants to talk to me --I don't have anybody, basically. Whoever's doing this, please stop, you're doing a lot of harm.'
"He reported that he had been receiving death threats from people following the accusations, but that he had never met Homolka. Writer Amanda Krum with Web Pro News disagrees with Magnotta's assertion, writing that:
" 'Although Magnotta has denied any involvement with the convicted killer, it certainly seems a strange coincidence that two people who have been linked in the past would share a dark love of perverse sexual pleasure tied in with murder and dismemberment.'
"While it is unlikely that Luka Rocco Magnotta and Karla Homolka actually dated (considering that they were only in Montreal at the same time for a few months), the link between the murders, and how the two dismembered the bodies, is hard to dispute."
the husband and wife serial killer duo of Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo

Indeed. What's more, this is not the first time the serial killer duo of Homolka and Paul Bernardo has been linked to a recent serial murderer. In fact, one of VISUP's very first (and not especially good)  posts examined the curious connection between Bernardo and Col. Russell Williams, who was accused of two murders in February 2010. Prior to becoming a serial rapist and murdered, Williams had been the commanding officer of the mysterious Camp Mirage, a Dubai-based installation rumored to be involved in sabotage, assassinations, and other black opts. It was suddenly shut down in October and November 2010, some eight months after Williams' arrest.

Russell Williams

Before his military days Williams attended the University of Toronto, where he allegedly befriended a young Paul Bernardo. City News Toronto reports:
"Days after the shocking arrest of the former commanding officer at CFB Trenton yet another dark revelation about the accused murdered has come to light.
"A report suggests Col. Russ Williams and Paul Bernardo were friends in university.
"The Toronto Sun revealed the two men attended the University of Toronto's Scarborough campus at the same time in the mid-1980s, that they both studied economics and graduated together.
"The report suggested the pair 'partied together' and that the joint forces probing the recent murder of Jessica Lloyd and Cpl. Marie-France Comeau are honing in on that alleged friendship.
"Currently, there is no criminal link between Williams and Bernardo."
I doubt much effort was put into establishing a link between Bernardo and Williams back in 2010 and probably even less of an effort will be made linking Homolka and Magnotta in 2012. For if such a link exists, it begs the question: Why do other serial killers keep popping up around Homolka and Bernardo? And why do all of these killers (Homolka, Bernardo, Williams, and now Magnotta) display an obsession with photographing and/or videotaping their victims?

There has been a persistent rumor for years of an underground black market of snuff films available to the wealthy and powerful. Some conspiracy researchers have even linked some of the nation's most notorious serial killers to this black market.
"Serial killers Henry Lucas and Otis Toole, professed members of a satanic cult that dealt in drugs and snuff, have each described their trips carrying Anglo children kidnapped in America to a ranch in Mexico. A map drawn by Lucas placed the ranch close to Matamoros, in the same vicinity where Adolfo Constanzo's cultists sacrificed fifteen victims in 1988 and 1989...
"In 1970, Charles Manson, Bobby Beausoleil, and other members of the Manson 'family' freely admitted that films were made of various cult activities around southern California. During the 'family' member trials, loops of Manson porn were selling for a quarter of a million dollars in New York and associate Vern Plumlee has also described films of Mansonites 'dancing with knives' and 'pretending to cut each other up.' Another informant, speaking to author Ed Sanders, professed personal knowledge of Manson films depicting both animal and human sacrifice. One reel portrayed the slaughter of a dog, he said, while another featured a cat blown apart with powerful 'M80' firecrackers. The final reel depicts a nude, decapitated woman lying on a beach while black-robed, hooded figures circle the corpse, 'throwing blood all over it.'
"A decade later, in 1981, convicted 'Son of Sam' gunman David Berkowitz told prison confidants that at least one 'Sam' attack --the shooting of Robert Violante and Stacy Moskowitz --was recorded on videotape for the private collection of a Satanist 'Mr. Big,' later identified as millionaire Roy Radin. In October 1981, Berkowitz predicted the Halloween murder of photographer and suspected drug dealer Ronald Sisman, allegedly committed because Sisman planned to trade the Moskowitz tape for leniency on a pending cocaine charge. The tape has not been found, and Radin was himself assassinated before he could be questioned by police...
"Following the June 1985 suicide of serial killer Leonard Lake, police found pits filled with human remains at his rural home in northern California. Also found were videocassettes depicting the humiliation, torture, rape, and death of several female victims --that is, 'snuff' tapes by definition. Unproven rumors suggest that Lake may have financed his paramilitary arsenal by selling copies of the tapes. However that may be, Lake's ex-wife recalls his enduring fascination with witchcraft, and neighbors in San Francisco report Lake describing himself as a member of a 'death cult.'"
(Raising Hell, Michael Newton, pgs. 343-345)

This makes Homolka, Bernardo, Williams, and Magnotta's photo and video habits all the more curious.  But enough speculation on Magnotta and company for now. It's time to get to the main event: namely, the Miami 'zombie.' For those of you living under a rock, here's the lowdown (via Raw Story) on the Miami cannibal thing:
"A man whose face was chewed off in a gruesome daylight attack was in a stable condition in hospital on Wednesday.
"According to anonymous sources at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital, Ronald Poppo, 65, is expected to live despite losing about 80% of his face, including his nose and left eye, in the attack by 31-year-old Rudy Eugene.
"Eugene, from Miami Beach, was shot dead by a police officer called to the downtown causeway on Saturday after reports of a fight and of a naked man ripping strips of flesh from another person’s face.
"Homicide detectives were continuing to try to piece together the circumstances of the bizarre incident on Wednesday as photographs said to be of the homeless victim at the scene and later in the emergency room appeared online.
"In one picture, apparently taken in the hospital, all that is left of the man’s face is a beard and his right eye, with the rest of his features blurred into a bloody red pulp. The photograph’s source cannot be confirmed but the injuries shown match those described by police and eyewitnesses on Tuesday...
"One theory is that Eugene, a divorcee with a history of mental problems and arrests for possession of marijuana, might have taken a mind-altering drug nicknamed “bath salts”, a popular LSD alternative said to give users superhuman strength and a sense of invincibility but which can trigger aggression, extreme paranoia and hallucinations."
Eugene and Poppo after the attack

Regular readers of this blog will know that Recluse has a keen interest in all things having to do with hallucinogens, so I was immediately intrigued by this substance known as 'bath salts' (there is still much debate as to whether or not the suspect even consumed this substance). Upon investigating these drugs further, I was quite disappointed. The Huffington Post reports:
"The dangerous drug, which is banned in many states, but so far has no specific federal ban (though there is a ban on the three main chemicals used to make the drug), is available on the street and also at many tobacco and drug paraphernalia shops under names like White China, Lady Bubbles, Dynamite, Vanilla Sky, Ivory Wave and Cloud 9.
"Bath salts, the drug's benign name, belies its actual makeup -- a toxic cocktail of the stimulants Methylenedioxypyrovalerone (MDPV), mephedrone, and pyrovalerone. The Drug Enforcement Agency groups bath salts with mescaline and ephedrine, while dealers market the drug as a replacement for cocaine or a synthetic form of the hallucinogen LSD, according to CNN.

"The drug can cause severe agitation, rapid heart rate, high blood pressure, paranoia and symptoms of psychosis, including hallucinations and delusions. The drug can also lead to overheating of the body, which is why so many users remove their clothing."
The Cloud 9 substance that Recluse has seen in several local smoke shops is actually marketed as a marijuana substitute. I'm guessing many of the other after mentioned brands are probably sold in such establishments as substitutes for magic mushrooms, ecstasy, LSD, etc. While I've heard of deaths being associated with these drugs, most people usually consider their effects weak compared to many of the after mentioned substances. What's more, I'm very skeptical of claims of superhuman strength and such being endowed upon the user.

There are of course other theories out there as to why Mr. Eugene felt the need to eat the bulk of Mr. Poppo's face. Some have chalked this incident up to a lack of a social safety net. Mr. Eugene's girlfriend even suspected that he may have been under some kind of voodoo curse. But the thing is, there was another attack in Florida not long ago that bore striking similarities to Mr. Eugene's, including mythological labels being applied to the perpetrator. This incident occurred in September 2011. While Mr. Eugene became the Miami Zombie, our next subject was dubbed the 'Florida Vampire.' MSNBC reports:
"A self-proclaimed vampire attacked an elderly wheelchair-bound man outside a Florida Hooters Restaurant just before midnight on Thursday, leaving him bloodied and in need of stitches, police said.

"Milton Ellis, 69, had fallen asleep on the porch of the deserted Hooters in St. Petersburg when he woke up to find Josephine Rebecca Smith, 22, on top of him, he told police.
"Smith told Ellis she was a vampire and then proceeded to bite him, tearing off chunks of his face and a part of his lip, St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz said, according to The St. Petersburg Times...
"Blood dripping from bite marks on his neck and face, Ellis managed to scramble back into his motorized wheelchair and reach a nearby Shell gas station, where he called police.
"Police found Smith on the blood-stained Hooters porch, half-naked. She was covered in Ellis' blood and said she didn't remember anything about the attack, according to Tampa Bay's Fox 13 News. She wasn't injured and hadn't been assaulted, police said...
"The two had met earlier in the night. Ellis, who had no place to sleep Thursday night, said Smith, of Pensacola, had been dropped off at the Shell station by relatives earlier that evening. Because it was raining out, he suggested Smith take refuge with him under the Hooters overhang, according to The St. Petersburg Times.
"Ellis offered to keep Smith company until someone came to pick her up, but he eventually fell asleep, reported The Times.

"Smith was fully dressed when Ellis last saw her, he told authorities, even though they had found her half-naked.
"Ellis has been arrested before too. He has been cited for multiple offensives in Penellas County, including panhandling, trespassing, and disorderly intoxication, The Times reported."
Rebecca Smith, the 'Florida vampire'

Obviously there are more similarities between the Miami Zombie and the Florida Vampire than the state in which they lived. Both Eugene and Smith reportedly bit at the faces of their victims, though Smith apparently was only interested in drinking her victim's blood (despite taking a few chunks out of his face). Both targeted elderly, homeless people. And most strangely, both apparently disrobed to some extent before assaulting their victims.

And it is here that I shall wrap things up. So, what then are we to make of the rash of cannibalism across the world? The striking similarities between the attacks of Mr. Eugene and Miss Smith indicate some kind of overlap, at least on a subconscious level. The Florida Vampire was big news here for a while, and it may have planted a seed in the mind of Mr. Eugene. Reports of cannibalism in Brazil and China seem to have only added fuel to the fire, leading to the rash cannibalism we witnessed this past week.

And then there's Luka Magnotta, and the subtle indications he brings that there is something bigger at play here than even zeitgeist. For now we find ourselves stumbling upon other serial killers and rumblings of snuff films, which leads to some of conspiracy culture's most disturbing theories. Just this morning, as I was getting ready to publish this piece, I stumbled upon yet another possible piece of the Magnotta affair: Two separate packages, one containing a human foot, the other a human hand, we sent to a pair of Vancouver schools on June 5. There is already much speculation that Magnotta is behind this incident. To recap: Magnotta killed, dismembered and possibly ate a Chinese man, published a video (snuff film) of this grizzly event online, and then proceeded to mail body part's of said Chinese man to various institutions. There's something happening here, and what it is ain't exactly clear, as the old song goes.

As noted at the beginning of this piece, cannibalism and the drinking of blood were some of the most ancient rituals of humanity. Long after these deeds were driven underground, they still persisted in the popular conscious as fairy tales and myths of vampires and the undead. The vampire myths seem to have been a means of romanticizing humanity's dark past while the popular version of the zombie (as opposed to the vodou notion) has reduced the act of cannibalism to one of pure instinct, void of deeper meaning.

And yet we are witnessing the power of such an act, and the subconscious meaning that speaks to all us, first hand right now. Whether this is intentional on the part of the Cryptocracy or simply another manifestation of the re-emergence of ancient traditions, is impossible to say. All we are left with, then, is a striking sense of coming change.

Latin American High Weirdness: The Cults VI

In parts four and five of this series we examined the life and times of notorious cultist, drug dealer and serial killer Adolfo Constanzo, especially the parts that don't jive with mainstream accounts. Of course, virtually everything about Constanzo is curious and seemingly awash in occult undertones. He is officially credited with 23 murders, though no one is really certain just how many deaths his cult was responsible for. Twenty-three is a rather ironic total given the number's own curious nature. The great Robert Anton Wilson called it the 23 enigma. Of it, he wrote:
"I first heard of the 23 enigma from William S Burroughs, author of Naked Lunch, Nova Express, etc. According to Burroughs, he had known a certain Captain Clark, around 1960 in Tangier, who once bragged that he had been sailing 23 years without an accident. That very day, Clark’s ship had an accident that killed him and everybody else aboard. Furthermore, while Burroughs was thinking about this crude example of the irony of the gods that evening, a bulletin on the radio announced the crash of an airliner in Florida, USA. The pilot was another captain Clark and the flight was Flight 23.

"Burroughs began collecting odd 23s after this gruesome synchronicity, and after 1965 I also began collecting them. Many of my weird 23s were incorporated into the trilogy Illuminatus! which I wrote in collaboration with Robert J Shea in 1969–1971. I will mention only a few of them here, to give a flavour to those benighted souls who haven’t read Illuminatus! yet:

"In conception, Mom and Dad each contribute 23 chromosomes to the fÅ“tus. DNA, the carrier of the genetic information, has bonding irregularities every 23rd Angstrom. Aleister Crowley, in his Cabalistic Dictionary, defines 23 as the number of 'life' or 'a thread', hauntingly suggestive of the DNA life-script. On the other hand, 23 has many links with termination: in telegraphers’ code, 23 means 'bust' or 'break the line', and Hexagram 23 in I Ching means 'breaking apart'. Sidney Carton is the 23rd man guillotined in the old stage productions of A Tale of Two Cities. (A few lexicographers believe this is the origin of the mysterious slang expression '23 Skiddoo!'.)

"Some people are clusters of bloody synchronicities in 23. Burroughs discovered that the bootlegger 'Dutch Schultz' (real name: Arthur Flegenheimer) had Vincent 'Mad Dog' Coll assassinated on 23rd Street in New York when Coll was 23 years old. Schultz himself was assassinated on 23 October. Looking further into the Dutch Schultz case, I found that Charlie Workman, the man convicted of shooting Schultz, served 23 years of a life sentence and was then paroled."

Robert Anton Wilson posing with the number 23

Certainly a 23 association with Constanzo will only add to the curious legacy of the number. Whether authorities legitimately thought 23 was the actual total of Constanzo's killings, whether it was randomly selected, or whether is was picked for its occult significance, is one of those things we shall never know. We will also likely never know whether or not the Constanzo cult in fact died off with its leader, or whether some version continued to flourish in Mexico and the U.S. after Constanzo's death. Several members of the Constanzo cult would claim that the sect was still active.
"The first hint that the cult might not have died with Constanzo came from Martin Quintana's sister, Teresa, as she babbled to the Mexican police three weeks before the shootout.

"She told them that Mara, Constanzo's first madrina, was not dead after all, but had moved to Guadalajara. Martin had said Mara ran boutiques for Constanzo there, but Mara confided to Teresa that she really was a witch, in the same religion as Constanzo.

"According to Teresa Quintana, Mara originally came from Veracruz, Mexico's center for witchcraft, with magical roots as deep as those in Salem, Massachusetts. Every year, a witch convention is held in Veracruz, where spells are traded and magic is compared in dark and private ceremonies...

"Mara is not accused of any crimes, but police wanted to question her. They could not find her. Nor could police locate Damian the transvestite or Francisco the real estate speculator.

"Weeks later, when Omar was arrested, he too would speak of others who practiced black magic and sacrifice -sister groups of Constanzo's. He knew no details, though. Then Sara said something very similar at one of the big press conferences. 'I don't think that the religion will end with us, because it has a lot of people in it,' she said. 'They have found a temple in Monterrey that isn't even related to us. It will continue."
(Buried Secrets, Edward Humes, pgs. 404-405)
Even more notorious members of Constanzo's cult remain at large.
"Charged in both countries, Ovidio Hernandez, leader of the Hernandez drug operation once Elio was imprisoned, remains free, assisted by a network of contrabandistas and concunios. He had been seen in Chicago in early 1990, but eluded arrest. His father, Brigido Hernandez, wanted on drug and weapons charges, and the former ranch foreman, Aurelio Chavez, also are fugitives.

"Most bitter for the U.S. investigators has been Malio Fabio Ponce Torres's elusiveness. The alleged kidnapper of Mark Kilroy, released by mistake by the Cameron County Sheriff's Department, remained free, even though informants twice led DEA agents to him in Monterrey, Mexico, and later in the Yucatan Peninsula. Each time, El Gato managed to elude capture. Well-versed in the religion of Adolfo de Jesus Constanzo, Mexican investigators believe he retrieved the nganga found to be missing from the room of the dead in Mexico City, then put it to use as a means of magically preserving his freedom."
(ibid, 398-399)
Here we bump into a major reoccurring theme in the saga of Constanzo: Police incompetence. The American authorities blew a chance to arrest Constanzo in Miami by announcing a tip they had received that he was heading there to the press. They failed in many other instances to apprehend members of the Constanzo cult when opportunities presented themselves. The Mexican authorities did not fair much better, stumbling upon the Constanzo cult initially via a routine road block that a member ran, and then later stumbling upon Constanzo himself when he began shooting at police in Mexico City with an Uzi when they weren't even looking for him. What's more, the Mexican authorities deliberately burned mounds of evidence at the Rancho Santa Elena in the name of performing a 'cleansing' of the place.

Rancho Santa Elena, and whatever evidence it stil lheld, being burned down
One is left with the impression that police were almost intentionally trying to cover up the scope of Constanzo's crimes. Hell, if not for Serafin Hernandez running a police roadblock and leading them back to Rancho Santa Elena where weapons and narcotics were barely hidden, its hard to tell how long Constanzo's cult would have continued killing unfettered. As it stands, no one is really certain just how many people were killed by the cult, how many members were active in it, and if the cult was even ended with Constanzo's death.

Again I am reminded of Charles Manson. As I noted before in two prior blogs on Manson (which can be found here and here) local police had wanted to take Charlie down months before the Tate/La Bianca killing spree began. Certainly there were no lack of crimes to charge Manson with, especially statuary rape and drug possession. Yet authorities were prevented from doing their jobs until the Manson situation reached the point of no return.

Charlie

I've already noted some other overlaps between Manson and Constanzo in parts four and five of this series, especially in their use of sex as a means of control and conditioning in regards to their followers. Both men were the heads of cults that were structured like extended families. Manson's cult was literally called the Family and he was referred to as father in the cult. Constanzo was el padrino -the godfather, in his cult. Both cults used drugs as a means of financial support. Manson's drug dealings are not generally reported upon in most mainstream sources, but by all accounts he was at least a mid-level dealer in the L.A. scene, possibly higher. Like Constanzo, he had connections to celebrities and various upper crust types.

A major difference between Manson and Constanzo were their views on drug use. Manson actively encouraged drug use in his cult as a means of controlling his followers. Constanzo was quite the opposite. While he had no problems selling drugs to the non-believers (who were no better than animals in his eyes) he instigated a strict zero tolerance penalty within his cult.
"...Adolfo de Jesus Constanzo wasn't an abuser of drugs. Neither were his followers. So rigid was Constanzo on this point that he killed one of his loyal minions for snorting a few lines of cocaine. Once they were arrested, neither Sara, nor Duby, nor any of the other suspects showed the slightest medical or psychological evidence of drug abuse or addiction. There were no needle marks on Constanzo's cadaver, no ravages of addiction on Martin's body. They killed sober and fully aware of what they were doing. And Constanzo and Martin died the same way -eyes open and unflinching, a bullet piercing Martin's left eye, but not his eyelid."
(ibid, pgs. 402-403)
On the other hand, Constanzo's cult was much more violent than Manson's from the get go. Beginning with animal sacrifices and soon working their way up to humans, blood and killing were regular fixtures of Constanzo's cult from the beginning. The Family would take longer to make it to that point. It seems these rituals of terror that Constanzo subjected his followers to, especially the the human sacrifices, were his primary means of breaking their will and tying them to Constanzo and the cult. Seemingly this was a much more effective method than pumping them full of LSD, as Manson did.

Jim Jones is another figure Constanzo compares well too. Both men were Americans that would lead cults in Latin America to bloody ends. Both men were bisexual and would use sex as a means of control over their followers. Both men attempted to invoke a sense of family within their cults. Like Manson, Jones was referred to as 'father' while Constanzo was 'godfather.' Jones, like both Manson and Constanzo, would strive for contacts amongst the upper crust and law enforcement. There were warning signs that Jones was seriously unhinged before Jonestown, yet American authorities did little to nothing to stop him, not unlike Manson and Constanzo. There is no evidence that Jones ever ordered his followers to kill anyone before the Ryan ambush, but several Peoples Temple members died under mysterious circumstances over the years before the Kool-Aid was handed out in Jonestown.

Jim Jones

Finally, there is ample evidence all three men adopted radical religious systems as a means of controlling their followers. In the case of both Manson and Jones, this system seems to have been based upon Nazi-tinged Gnosticism.
"...Jones began to speak of revolution, and of Jesus as a socialist. He began to gradually mock and vilify the God of the Jews, the 'Sky God' as he called him, and to identify Jehovah with satanic forces bent on the destruction of humanity. It was pure neo-Nazism, except it was so convoluted that most of his followers would never have recognized it for what it was... the Nazi ideologists of the Third Reich had reinterpreted the bible in such a way that the God of the Israelites was Satan. This has become standard theology in such racist organizations in America as the Christian Identity movement.

"Lucifer was the 'light-bringer,' and intent on delivering humanity from the clutches of the evil Jehovah. This is also a Gnostic belief, as demonstrated in the scriptures uncovered at Nag Hammadi in Egypt in 1945. In this system, the Serpent in the Garden of Eden was the true God, who wanted to deliver the human race from the blind Creator God, the Demiurge who wanted Adam and Eve as his personal slaves...

"This multiplicity of gods with Biblical genealogy is what gave rise to the theology of the Process Church of the Final Judgement... This form of Gnosticism also influenced Charles Manson, and he began to identify himself with Abraxas, a famous Gnostic deity whose numerological equivalent is 365, the same as the number of days in the year and thus representative of time itself. With the Nazis, the neo-Nazis, and the Christian Identity movement in the United States, Europe, and Latin America, we are experiencing a strange resurrection of first and second century Gnosticism: Gnosticism with a vengeance."
(Sinister Forces Book II, Peter Levenda, pg. 175)

Abraxas

Crowley disciple Kenneth Grant associated the Gnostics with the Sirius tradition.
"The withdrawal of the genuine Magical Tradition occurred when the Gnostics, the true pre-Christian Christians, were stifled by the forgers of 'historic' Christianity. A certain amount of the original Gnosis is preserved in Talmudic and Rabbinical lore but, generally speaking, the Jews, like the Greeks and Christians, did all in their power to distort and destroy all traces of the original Current."
(The Magical Revival, Kenneth Grant, pg. 70)
The references to Nazism are especially interesting in relation to another cult, the one based out of Chile's infamous Colonia Dignidad (Colony of Dignity), that I covered in part one of this series. This cult was headed by the ex-Nazi Paul Schafer, and consisted almost entirely of German citizens. Many of the rank and file were kept at the Colony against their will and were used essentially as slave labor. Elaborate techniques of torture were used and the Colony even featured interrogation cells. Some of the Colony members had been abducted from Germany as children and were molested by Schafer. Author Peter Levenda, who traveled to the Colony in the late 1970s, strongly believed that Nazi occultism was practiced by the cult and that it was seemingly based off of the Gnostic 'Current' that was spreading across the world at the time.

Colonia Dignidad

Whether Constanzo was aware of this 'Current' or not is impossible to determine. But Manson and Jones, individuals with objectives and followings similar to Constanzo, did seemingly embrace a kind of Gnosticism in their cults.

There is one final connection I would now like to address in regards to the Constanzo cult and those of Manson and Jones. And that is a possible connection all three men had to the CIA. I will once again refer the reader back to my prior blogs on Manson, which can be found here and here; as well as those on Jones, located here and here. The CIA connections of both men are discussed in great length in those pieces. Here I will only briefly discuss their handlers.

Manson's seems to have been the enigmatic Ronald Stark, an individual whom an Italian court ruled had been in the employee of the American secret services since 1960. Stark was also a major drug trafficker who took over supplying the legendary Brotherhood of Eternal Love in the late 1960s and continued trafficking all over the world long after that organization was defunct. As noted previously, the Manson Family were drug dealers in the L.A. area. Several sources have placed Stark as Manson's supplier. Some have even speculated that the Tate/La Bianca killings were drug related and that Stark may have factored into the decision process behind the murders. For more on Stark, check here. Needless to say, the relationship between Manson and Stark is highly contested by mainstream sources.

Ronad Stark

The same cannot be said of Jones and the man commonly suspected of being his handler, Dan Mitrione. Mitrione was a police officer, FBI agent, and eventual 'advisor' to the CIA in Latin America. Mitrione has been described as a kind of interrogation 'specialist' who was himself eventually tortured to death in Uruguay. While its rarely mentioned in mainstream sources, Jones and Mitrione had known each other since Jones was a teenager and remained in contact until the latter's death.

Mitrione

Constanzo had his own curious CIA link. In part four of this series I told the reader to remember the name of Florentino Ventura Gutierrez, a Federal Judicial Police agent who became a member of Constanzo's cult in the mid-1980s and helped him break into the drug racket. It was Gutierrez who introduced Constanzo to the Calzada cartel, the leadership of which would eventually be sacrificed by Constanzo on Walpurgis Night. Gutierrez was an interesting individual.
"Constanzo's biggest coup, however, involved no such extravaganzas, just straight fortune telling and cleansing. And it came from an entirely different sector than the show-business clients, in the form of a crusty veteran Mexican policeman named Florentino Ventura Gutierrez.

"Ventura had been primer comandante of the Mexican Federal Judicial Police -the equivalent of FBI director in the United States. In 1985, he had become director of the Mexican branch of Interpol, the European-based international criminal investigation organization, making him one of the most powerful lawmen in Mexico. Respected by many U.S. drug enforcement agents for his tough stance against smugglers, he also had extensive contacts with the CIA. He was a natural cold-war asset for the U.S. intelligence community in Mexico City, where there were more KGB agents than an city outside the Warsaw Pact. The Soviet agents found the Mexican capital a perfect base of operations, a city close to the United States where the government imposed no restrictions on communist agents. Consequently, the CIA vies constantly with the KGB for the loyalties of certain influential Mexicans."
(Buried Secrets, Edward Humes, pg. 115)

Bottom right is apparently the real life Ventura

Gutierrez would shepherd Constanzo's rise in the drug smuggling world while simultaneously protecting him from Mexican police. Their relationship would last all the way up to Gutierrez's death in September 1988. Gutierrez allegedly killed himself in addition to his wife and a friend in the same burst of gunfire. Less than nine months after Gutierrez's death Constanzo would be dead and his cult in ruins. Is it possible that Gutierrez was Constanzo's handler? If Mexico City was truly as riddled with KGB agents as Humes claims then a man with Constanzo's 'talents' may have come in handy. If this sounds outlandish, keep in mind that this is the same agency that recruited men such as Klaus Barbie, Otto Skorzeny, and Lucky Luciano. In the company of such men, Constanzo would have simply been one of the boys.

Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie, yet another tool in the CIA's Cold War arsenal

Thus, we have three prominent cult leaders, all of whom with ties to the CIA. Were the Manson and Constanzo cults and the Peoples Temple part of some broader organization or experiment? A most unlikely source alluded to this very possibility: the notorious serial killer Henry Lee Lucas, who was indicted in 189 cases of murder at one point. In actuality Lucas, a former drifter, has only been linked with eleven killings, though law enforcement have often speculated that that total could be much higher. After being arrested Henry claimed that he and his partner Ottis Toole were contract killers for a nation wide satanic cult known as the Hand of Death. Though Lucas's claims were widely dismissed when initially made, authorities were forced to reevaluate them (if only briefly) when news of the Constanzo cult broke.
"One of the more compelling aspects of Henry's story was his contention that he had ties to cult-run ranches just south of the U.S. border. In 1989, just such a ranch was excavated in Matamoros, Mexico -just south of Brownsville, Texas -yielding the remains of fifteen ritual sacrifice victims. The Matamoros case so closely paralleled the stories told years earlier by Lucas that some law enforcement personnel in Texas chose to take a closer look at Henry's professed cult connections. In fact, Jim Boutwell -the sheriff of Williamson County, Texas -later told a reporter that investigators had verified that Lucas was indeed involved in cult activities.
"Following the discovery in Matamoros, Clemmie Schroeder -identified as Henry's spiritual adviser -sent to the state attorney general a map Lucas had drawn for her in 1985 that identified locations where murder, kidnapping and drug-running operations were conducted. She told a reporter for the Brownsville Herald: 'Henry told me there were a lot of different cults in Mexico who were involved in satanic worship and everything. I found the map and realized he had marked this cult and drug ring near Brownsville.' The attorney general's office chose not to take action."
(Programmed to Kill, David McGowan, pg. 88)

Henry Lee Lucas (left) and his partner, Ottis Toole

Of course the Matamoros area was not the only region Lucas claimed the Hand of Death was active. He placed another killing ranch just outside of the notorious city of Juarez where hundreds (if not thousands) of women have been murdered since 1993, some with ritualistic overtones. A decade after Constanzo's reign of terror ended another ranch with mass graves was discovered at Juarez precisely where Henry's map had indicated a cult center.
"After a decade had passed... yet another excavation was begun, at a ranch near Juarez, Mexico. That property was, strangely enough, located precisely where Henry Lee Lucas had claimed that the 'Hand of Death' cult maintained a ranch. The first reports on the Juarez ranch surfaced on December 1, 1999... a Los Angeles Times report noted that the 'clanestine burial grounds [were] practically within sight of the U.S. border.'
"Early reports indicated that authorities anticipated exhuming between 100 and 300 bodies from mass graves on the ranch, including twenty-two missing U.S. citizens and a number of former FBI and DEA informants. The investigation was quickly expanded to include at least three more possible burial grounds in the area..."
(ibid, pgs. 91-92)

Memorials to the dead women of Juarez

Once U.S. authorities took over the 1999 investigation of the Juarez ranch the body total dropped from at least 100 to only nine victims. Truly, the inter-agency work of the Mexican and U.S. authorities must be a thing to behold. Needless to say, if there is any truth to Henry's map, then we are left with many troubling questions.

Was Constanzo's cult part of a nation wide order? Was it linked to the Manson Family and the Peoples Temple? Are the murders now happening in Juarez also tied in with the Constanzo, Manson and Jones cults in some way? And if so, were all these organizations being controlled by the CIA? And if so, to what purpose? As a sociological or mind control experiment? As an act of terrorism? To corner the drug trade and escalate the Cold War? Any of these explanations are of course possible and there are even more scenarios I haven't covered. All we can be sure of is that there is much in the Constanzo saga that does not jive with mainstream accounts, as per usual. One thing that is certain is that there's more to Constanzo and his cult than what we were told.

The New World? -Occult Volusia County

This post shall focus upon the namesake of this blog and our organization, Volusia County. I suppose it may seem somewhat self important to write on a place that's primary claim to fame is the Daytona 500 and other ties to NASCAR yet the bizarre history and energy of this place has made it a magnet for powerful men over the years. Nestled between St. Augustine, the oldest European city in the entire United States, and the 28th North degree latitude, one of the mystery parallels, Volusia is classic Americana -a sleepy Southern beach community with secrets dark and deep enough as to be totally numbing to its populace at large.

I first became aware of this state of affairs during a vacation to Savannah, GA in the early part of this decade. One night while getting drunk in my hotel room (I was under 21 at the time) I wondered out briefly to get a cigarette lighter at a neighboring convenience store and was confronted by this drunk at the staircase, leading up to my room floor.

This guy had been on quite a bender -he was shirtless, flabby and oozing sweat from the summer heat and humidity in addition to being homeless. He hit me up for a beer and started rambling off a series of questions. In the midst of trying to shake this guy before heading up to my room I let it slip that I was from the Daytona area. He immediately went pale and shook his head. The drunk went on to tell me that he was from the Daytona area and that  the people there had given him the name 'Evil' because he had never been any account. But, he insisted, it was the place, Daytona, that had made him this way. It was quite a performance, expressing the special kind of madness the place sends many unstable sorts into after years of living here.

Recent arrivals here are often shocked by he underlining sleaze of the environment, but that only scratches the surface of a deep pit that in recent years has included links to the September 11th terrorist attacks via our local flight school, Embry Riddle, as well as an unusually high concentration of serial killers that include Aileen Wuornos, Gary Ray Bowles, and Gerald Stano. It's quite possible other high profile killers such as Ted Bundy, Henry Lee Lucas, and Otis Toole also visited these seedy streets. Presently the city of Daytona has an unknown serial killer at large known only as the Daytona Beach Killer. Here we shall focus on how it came to be this way.

It all began with the Timucua tribe that controlled most of northern-central Florida prior to the rival of the Spanish. Much mystery surrounds these fierce peoples. The Timucua were semi-agricultural people living in small villages containing between 30 houses and 200-300 residents. To the Spanish they were shockingly tall, among other odd physical features. Of them Fortean researcher William Grimstad writes:
"The Timucua were first mentioned by Ponce de Leon in 1513. Little is known about them, and there is no indication of any special affinity with other Amerindian tribes. They were heavily tattooed, went largely unclothed, and practiced human sacrifice and at times cannibalism. What is known of their language also suggests a Pacific rather than American orientation."
(Weird America, pg. 66)

The Catholic Encyclopedia also makes some interesting observations about the Timucua practices. Obviously anything in this Encyclopedia should be taken with a huge grain of salt, but I'll toss it out there anyway:
"Prisoners of war and their descendants constituted a slave class. Their military organization and methods were superior to what was found among the northern tribes. Scalping and mutilation of the slain enemy were universal, and the dismembered limbs were carried from the field as trophies or to serve for cannibal feasts. Polygamy was customary. Gross sensuality was prevalent. The chief gods were the Sun and the Moon, the Deer and other animals. They were extremely ceremonious, celebrating planting and harvest seasons, fishing and hunting expeditions, the going and return of war parties, marriages and funerals, each with special rites of prayer, fasting, feasting, dancing and purification by means of the "black drink" brewed from the leaves of the Ilex cassine. On certain great ceremonial occasions the first-born male infants of the tribe were delivered up by their mothers to be sacrificed to the Sun, in whose honour also a sacred fire was kept always burning in their temples."

All in all these rituals sound very similar to the practices of the Phoencians and other Baal worshippers who were also known to keep sacred flames and occasionally sacrifice their first-borns there-in to the Sun god. The Timucua were also Mound Builders like the equally mysterious Hopewell and Adena. The Adena also had an equally murky origin as well, baring little physical relation to the Hopewell or other tribes that preceded them. I've written far more on the topic of these northern tribes and their ruins here.

The Timucua made their mounds primarily out of sea shells rather than earth as the Adena and Hopewell did. The largest of these mounds, as well as the largest shell midden in the nation, is located right here in Volusia County, on our side of Cape Canaveral. It is known as Turtle Mound. Presently it stands 50 feet high and 2 acres wide but in its heyday it may have been over 75 feet tall.

The Timucua were hardly the only mystery to greet the Spanish upon arriving in central Florida. There was also the odd geomagnetic characteristics of the area, best embodied by the St. Johns River, only one of three rivers in all of North America to flow northward despite being on the northern side of the Equator. To continue with Grimstad, writing of the nearby St. Augustine:
"I have always been a bit awed at how unerringly the Spaniards went to areas of geomagnetic anomaly -such as this one -in their early explorations. Another such site is the spot they selected as the first capital of colonial California, Monterey
(Weird America, pg. 66)
It seems possible the Spanish were drawn to this area as well as St. Augustine. In New Smyrna, the second or third oldest city in Florida depending upon the source, there are a series of ruins built into the side and top of an Indian mound known as Old Fort Park. The ruins within this structure are made of coquina, a substance commonly used by the Spanish to build forts and missions in Florida during that era. This has led many to believe that the ruins are either of a Conquistador fort or a Jesuit mission erected in the 16th century by persons under the command Pedro Menendez de Avilies, the first Spanish governor of St. Augustine.

The Spanish would not long remain the only European power in the area. By the very early 17th century British 'privateers' (read: pirates) began using Ponce's Inlet, near what is now New Smyrna Beach, as a staging ground for raiding Spanish ships coming from Havana through the Gulf of Florida as well as St. Augustine. One of these privateers happened to be Sir Francis Drake, a close friend of Sir Francis Bacon, a major visionary of British expansion in the 'New World' and suspected Rosicrucian. This could have potentially put the English in direct conflict with the Spanish on American shores shortly after the beginning of the 17th century. The presence of Rosicrucian-affiliated privateers vying with the Conquistadors and /or Jesuits of the New Smyrna based Old Fort for control of the area certainly makes for interesting speculation.

The first official English settlement, or any kind of European settlement, in Volusia County occurred in 1768 with the founding of the New Smyrna Colony. The colony was named after Smyrna, an important religious city of Anatolia (now Turkey) in both paganism and Christianity. Ancient Smyrna was based near a legendary river known as the Medes which allegedly was the birthplace of the epic poet Homer. This led the pagans to place important religious significance on the river. Smyrna the city was also home to Roma, a female deity that personified the city of Rome. In Christian times it became home to Bishop Polycarp, who was martyred there in 153 AD. It was also the birthplace of St. Irenaeus and is home to one of the seven churches mentioned in the Book of Revelations.

Ancient Smyrna was certainly an apt namesake for New Smyrna, which was founded by Scotsman Dr. Andrew Turnbull shortly after the English take over of Florida in the 18th century and supposedly named in honor of his Greek wife. Turnbull was also the first to begin a bizarre series of linkages between Volusia and ancient Egypt. In Turnbull's case he had a series of Egyptian style canals built around his massive plantation, many of which survived well into the 20th century when they were finally paved over to make for modern expansion.

Many of the original 1200 colonist, charitably referred to as 'indentured servants', were of Greek and Minorcan stock with a few Italians and Sicilians thrown in for good measure. 148 of these 'colonists' died during transportation to the New World while another 700 died in the first three years of New Smyrna's operations. Naturally the colony was profitable, if unlivable, by 1771.

Shortly after arriving at New Smyrna some 300 colonist staged a rebellion that was quickly put down by a British frigate. This led to two colonist (the leaders) being executed, and the rest sent back to the gentle grips of Turnbull. Finally in 1777 after 964 total 'colonist' had died in less than 10 years, and many of whom survived were still being kept on the plantation years after their indentures expired, another rebellion occurred. About 70 remaining servants marched up Old kings Road to St. Augustine and demanded their rights from the British governor, Tonyn. Given the appalling state of the 'servants' and the fact that their contracts had expired, freedom was quickly granted and the Turnbull plantation was totally abandoned shortly thereafter.

The systematic liquidation of the Turnbull servants as well as the Timucua Indians, via disease, places a lot of blood on this area. Some researchers such as Michael Tsarion have proposed that the Cryptocracy performs mass killings, either through wars, massacres, or the like, at certain geographically important regions to 'feed' the negative entities that reside there. For more information on this topic, check out what I've written here. If there's any truth to these claims, Volusia would certainly seem like an attractive feeding ground.

Another tradition that notes a unique energy here is that of the Spiritualist community known as Cassadaga. This was an off shoot of the Spiritualist Church based out of Lake Dilly, New York. The founder of Cassadaga was a Spiritualist and seer known as George Colby who first encountered the area in the late 1870s. Colby claimed to be have been led to the area that is now known as Cassadaga by three spirit guides -Seneca, the Philosopher, and the Unknown. According to local tradition Cassadaga is built at the crossroads of several ley lines, which makes the veils between two worlds thinner here than other areas. It's considered one of 20 places on Earth with a unique energy vortex that makes communications from beyond idea here. Again, we're confronted with bizarre traditions of a odd 'energy' surrounding Volusia and nearby areas.

It was also around this time that Volusia, along with other areas along Florida's eastern coast, became a popular tropical retreat for various high society types. Chief among them was John D Rockefeller I himself who ultimately bought a home known as the Casements here, in Ormond Beach. He would eventually die there in 1937. Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and Harvey Firestone would be frequent guest at the Ormond Hotel (across the street from the Casements) as would Henry Flagler, who owned it.

A homegrown product known as Bert Fish would continue our connection to ancient Egypt in this era as well. Fish, a local judge, would go on to become the financial director of the Democratic National Committee and FDR's Florida campaign manager during the 1932 election. As a reward he was appointed to ambassador to Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and would be instrumental in helping US oil companies gain the rights to drill in the later. This would mark the beginning of what has become an epically exploitative relationship between the US Cryptocracy and the House of Saud. Bert Fish was also a great lover of ancient Egyptian culture and a 32nd degree Freemason.

Slightly south of Volusia, in Brevard County, is the Kennedy Space Center, which plays heavily into the theories of James Shelby Downard and Michael Hoffman expressed in their legendary King Kill 33 essay. They believed that the Cryptocracy had three goals to accomplish in order to bring about the 'total decay of matter.' These goals were:

*the Creation and Destruction of Primordial Matter

*the Killing of the Divine King

*the Bringing of Prima Materia to Prima Terra

The first two were accomplished along the 33rd North latitude, the first with the destruction of the atomic bomb at the Trinity site at White Sands, New Mexico; the second, with the assassination of JFK in Dallas along Bloody Elm. The third, the bringing of moon rocks to Earth, was put in motion with the launch of Apollo 11 from the Kennedy Space Center.

Unlike the prior two acts which were committed near the 33rd North latitude, the third stage was accomplished at the 28th North latitude. In the Scottish Rite the 28th degree is the Knight of the Sun degree, which takes up by far the longest chapter in Albert Pike's Morals and Dogmas. According to Downard in King Kill 33 the number 28 is one of the correspondences to Solomon in Kabbalistic numerology, the Solomonic name assigned to 28 being 'Beale.'

I've proposed before that alchemical workings are performed along ley lines to harness the unique energy of these areas. There is ample evidence that Volusia and much of the surrounding area along this stretch of Florida's east coast (from roughly St. Augustine to Titusville), is such an area. From Jesuits, Rosicrucians, Freemasons, Spiritualists, and so on, the entire area has proved attractive to secret society adepts for centuries on end. The foundlings of Cassadaga and the Kennedy Space Center, and possibly St. Augustine, seem to be have been accomplished along occultic principles specifically to harness the forces that reside here.

Further, the atmosphere of this area is a fine testament to anyone who has lived here. As previously noted, a rather high number of serial killers have operated out of here. In general this place seems to be a mecca for sexual predators. Many chalk it up to Daytona's status as kind of a heartland for the Redneck Riviera, and that inevitable adds to it, but a malevolent side to the area has existed since the time of Turnbull. I've had numerous people that have lived around here over the years express a kind of insatiable anger that seems to perpetually grip this quiet beach community.

Again I must ask, is this land truly the new world? There are surely forces here that would beg to differ...

UPDATE:

Today I made another, rather startling connection between Volusia and ancient Egypt. Presently I'm researching 'the Nine', the ancient gods of Egypt who were all individual parts of the great creator god, Atum. Beginnings in the 1950s several well connected individuals became convinced that they were channeling these entities, who were in fact of extraterrestrial origin, through mediums put in a hypnotic state. The chief mover and shaker of this 'Council of the Nine' was a scientist and physician named Andrija Puharich, who also happened to be a key researcher for the CIA and DoD at the Edgewood Arsenal.

Over the years Puharich used numerous individuals to channel these entities, most famously Israeli psychic Uri Geller. Puharich also came into contact with another medium named Phyllis Schlemmer who would go on to found the Psychic Center of Florida in Orlando and surely must have been aware of the nearby Cassadaga. At the center she would meet a man known only by the pseudonym 'Bobby Horne' who was a cook from Daytona Beach. Horne showed remarkable psychic ablities and it was not long until Puharich was on the scene to run some tests.

Needless to say, Puharich was impressed and Bobby Horne would spend much of the summer months of 1974 channeling the spirits of ancient Egyptian aliens for a CIA doctor and a wealthy race car driver, Sir John Whitmore. The experience was to much for Mr. Horne and he soon became suicidal to the point that he was eventually removed from the project. Nothing is written on him past this point.

Still, I can't help but marvel how even the saga of Nine leads back to here with 'Horne' and even the nearby Phyllis Schlemmer, who's still doing her thing out there in Orlando.
