While I believe they continued to produce solid work through Fire of Unknown Origin, it is obvious they shit the bed afterward. Furthermore it is equally obvious that the level of creepy, weird and mysterious dropped when they stopped using Sandy lyrically.

BÖC relied heavily on John Shirley lyrically on their last two studio albums Heaven Forbid & Curse of the Hidden Mirror. I believe they were trying for that dark mysterious tone of the past but, as much as I like John Shirley the author I dislike him as the lyricist and I believe a lot of what he wrote was a ham handed attempt to bring that vibe. I wonder if the band didn't have a lot of faith in themselves to produce good lyrics: the best song on either album is the Buck tune Harvest Moon which is as good as anything they've done and I believe would fit nicely in the Imaginos storyline, as would Stone of Love (by Meltzer). I wonder what your thoughts are on this.

Finally, I read your review on Dominance & Submission (great by the way) and wanted to comment on your observation about them playing at a holiday inn while other bands of their ilk continue to be bigger draws. I have two thoughts. The first is that they continue to have the same problem they did in the 70's: no one knows what to do with them. Where to they fit in? They sing about weird stuff that's tough to make out. You don't have that problem with Aerosmith singing Angel. Secondly and more importantly I don't believe their heart has been in it for a long time. Joe & Al Bouchard have two albums in a few years with their new band Blue Coupe and are planning on a third; they're really good albums by the way. Joe Bouchard solo is recording all the time. BÖC could do it too if they chose to. With technology being what it is, you don't need a studio anymore.

Anyway, thanks again for the articles, they were great.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06373252319778587365noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4891114758163865289.post-32774435416296858692016-10-30T11:56:01.146-04:002016-10-30T11:56:01.146-04:00http://truelegends.info/paranormal/oyster.htmhttp://truelegends.info/paranormal/oyster.htmAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07203595575905932424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4891114758163865289.post-8323885732238477752016-10-30T11:50:54.945-04:002016-10-30T11:50:54.945-04:00I own a copy of Stephen Kaplan's self publishe...I own a copy of Stephen Kaplan's self published "Premature Gods & Contemporary Vampires".
