I think the root of it is they simply don't want anyone to slow their roll, they want to work on their visions unencumbered. Lack of empathy and compassion can have disastrous results, obviously! I found it interesting that you mentioned "Lovecraftian cities in the sea" in relation to the NRx seasteading concept, because over at the liberal tech/lifestyle blog BoingBoing, the staff and readership has chosen Cthulu to be one of their patron saints of sorts. Liberals tend to reference Cthulu with a kind of hipster irony , sort of like he's a humorous corrective imbalance or antidote to the forces of religion. This is ironic to me because Chris Knowles has done some great writing on Lovecraft and his links to the spiritual/religious author Alice Bailey. Therein lies the truth. Electricity is needed for any AI world. Friction must be processed, sunlight must be transformed. I live by the river, between two mountains (no cell service) and zero industrial noise at night. Life is good. The water flows. Birds sing, the cat and rat know the pile of corn will remain the same. Once scientists realized that it could be done, they had to build it... so that the guys that built it weren't other guys... and even though building it was a pretty horrible thing.

Anyway, I appreciate that it isn't what is usually meant by Rotko's Basilisk, but my point stands. It wouldn't the first time in history that something terrible has been built, just merely in order to be the one who controls it. Admittedly, we still don't know how the nuclear weapons story ends. But we do know about other weapons. Same situations apply.
Maria Rigelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01462530303945149045noreply@blogger.com
