It would make far more sense to have Soviet weapons on several levels for the "Gladiators."

-RecluseReclusehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13510266038933358020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4891114758163865289.post-32621357812210479192015-07-12T08:30:40.859-04:002015-07-12T08:30:40.859-04:00>" It is hard to imagine what advantage th...>" It is hard to imagine what advantage the gladiators could derive from the use of Eastern Bloc weapons in the event of a Soviet invasion."

Philip Willan's comment is surprising, given how Gladio units would be difficult at best to resupply in a Soviet occupational situation. Like Rommel in North Africa, they would reply on their well-stocked enemies to provide some of what they needed. What use is there in having stocks of American or British weapons when all you can get is Warsaw Pact ammo? Far better to have Kalashnikov rifles and steal or scavenge as you go.

Also, this is a covert operation staffed by local forces. Were they discovered, and eventually some faction would be captured or killed, the last thing you want to do is advertise their NATO affiliations via their gear. By using Soviet-only weapons they could prolong for some time at least the facade that this was a home-grown insurgency.Moses Horowitzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17270150897407282808noreply@blogger.com
